Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • â…“ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • 3 cups milk
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 3 pounds potatoes, thinly sliced (â…›” thick)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. Sauté onion in butter until tender. Stir in thyme and flour, cook 1-2 minutes.
  3. Slowly whisk in milk, then chicken broth. Season with salt and pepper, bring to a boil for 1 minute.
  4. Layer potatoes, ham, and sauce in the pan, starting and ending with sauce.
  5. Bake covered for 50 minutes, then uncovered for 25-35 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  6. Add cheese in the last 15 minutes of baking (optional).
  7. Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
